Alumni News | Cara Kirkwood

Past student Cara Kirkwood, graduate of the Class of 1996, was recently appointed to the Board of the Art Gallery of South Australia. Cara’s achievement is significant given that she is the first Indigenous women to receive this honour.

As the Assistant Director of Indigenous Engagement and Strategy at the Department of Parliamentary Services in Canberra, Cara has been a positive influence within the arts and cultural space. Cara has taken on many outstanding leadership roles throughout her career, all aimed at bridging the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.

Her passion for social justice began during her time at Rivermount College, where she was actively involved in community and cultural projects as well as being an avid participator in the Arts. Since leaving the College, Cara has pursued a career in these same areas, known professionally as an advocate and influencer for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

On behalf of the College community we congratulate Cara on her appointment and wish her all the very best for the future.
