Year 6 and Year 1 Digital Technologies

Our Year 6 cohort recently enjoyed the opportunity to use the Scratch program to create their own unique interactives, stories, art, animations and games, which they then shared with the Year 1 students.

Scratch is a block-based visual programming language and website that the cohort has used to help learn the fundamentals of coding. The students created an online educational game using block-like interface specifically for their younger peers to assist them with their English, Mathematics, Humanities and Science concepts. This included the planning and coding of moving sprites, sounds, music and artwork within their games whilst ensuring the end product was educational and engaging.

An excited cohort of Year 1 students enjoyed the experience, providing their older peers with a lot of positive feedback. The learning interaction between the Upper and Lower Primary students provided a valuable opportunity to implement essential skills such as creativity, reasoning, and the ability to work collaboratively.
