Year 1 Environmental Science Adventure

The Toohey Forest Environmental Educational Centre was the perfect destination for our Year 1 cohort to visit as part of their Science and Geography studies. Located in the sustainably designed Griffith University EcoCentre, the facility provides an immersive experience for students to explore the importance of living and non-living forest organisms.

Following the adventure, a few of our eager Year 1 students were keen to share their experience in their own words.

"The first thing we saw on our excursion to Toohey’s Forest was fish with their eggs in a tank. There were big ones and small ones. Next, we searched for bugs to give to Sir Search-a-lot. We found more than she needed so she chose some to take. Finally, we went back. On the way back I sat next to Kyden, we had so much fun."

"Year 1 went on an excursion to Toohey’s Forest, and we saw a turtle. Then we met Sir Search-a-lot and she needed a lot of help to catch bugs, so we caught some bugs for her. I caught a ladybeetle and then we saw it underneath the microscope. It was fun."

"We went to Toohey’s Forest where my friends and I went to see some koalas. Then we went back to the classroom. We had a great time and then we went to morning tea. We also saw a snake shedding its skin. It was so cool. Also, I caught a wasp, and it didn’t even sting me!"
