Three Year 12 students recently earned outstanding recognition for their exceptional writing, including accolades in a statewide Historical Writing Competition and recognition from the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA).
Emily Gaskain and Caitlin Stock entered the Queensland History Teachers' Association (QHTA) Historical Writing Competition 2026, showcasing their research, analytical thinking and ability to bring the past to life through compelling historical inquiry.
Emily achieved Second Place in the Year 12 Ancient History – Independent Source Investigation (Research) category, an impressive accomplishment that recognises the depth of research, critical analysis and historical understanding demonstrated in her work. Meanwhile, Caitlin received a Highly Commended award in the Essay Writing category, recognising the quality of her historical writing and ability to develop and communicate a well-supported historical argument.
Adding to these achievements, the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) has selected Shiloh Smith's work as an exemplar of outstanding student achievement. This is a significant accolade, as exemplar work demonstrates the highest standard of achievement against the relevant assessment criteria in Queensland.
Together, these accomplishments highlight these students' dedication, curiosity, and academic talent, as well as the value of encouraging young people to question, investigate, and interpret the events that have shaped our world.
Congratulations to Emily, Caitlin and Shiloh on their fantastic achievement!
