Year 7 student Gabriel Elkayam made a standout debut in the highly competitive Rotax karting competition, finishing third and setting the fastest lap in the final session at the recent Ipswich Kart Club iROC event. He will compete in the Rotax Life event in August and looks ahead to the Australian National Finals in September, where a win could earn him a spot at the international Grand Finals in Bahrain.
Gabriel’s karting journey began at age three in a backyard buggy. Since then, he has earned titles, including two-time Young Guns winner, Queensland State Cup podium finisher, Warwick Kart Club Junior of the Year (2024), and four-time Club Champion.
Balancing school, racing, and charity work for causes such as mental health and cancer research, Gabriel trains and works on his kart almost every weekend.
“This year is a challenge because I am driving three different engine types, but Rotax is one of my favourite classes,” he says. “Even on a small budget, I get a chance to show what I can do.”
We wish him the best of luck and look forward to hearing more from this rising racing star in the future.
