Mr Men and Little Miss Inspire the Love of Literacy in Year 1

Our Year 1 students were recently introduced to the colourful characters of the Mr Men and Little Miss books as part of their Literacy program. Capturing the hearts and imaginations of our young learners, these books unfold lively stories and illustrations that allow the students to immerse themselves in the tales of their favourite characters.

From the cheerful and optimistic Mr Happy to the adventurous and energetic Little Miss Sunshine, the vibrant personalities of the Mr Men and Little Misses have served as a bridge between literature and our students’ own experiences to foster a richer connection with reading.

To finish their unit, all the students created and wrote about their own characters. Please enjoy some of their stories.

Mr Strong just kept knocking stuff over. He couldn’t help it. For instance, he knocked over 300 things a day. So he thought and thought and thought until he decided he was going to the doctor. So he got the doctor to remove some strength. So now Mr Strong does not bump into stuff.

This is Little Miss Kind. She always has a smile on her face. When Little Miss Kind was walking in the street she met Mr Mean. He was quite the opposite of Little Miss Kind. He never had a smile on his face. Then Little Miss Kind taught him a lesson it was almost 9:00pm and Mr Mean did not like the lesson even though it was to make him less mean he did not like it. She was kind to him every night and he still didn’t like it so she kept trying until he showed up last night to be kind to Little Miss Kind.

This story is about Little Miss Smarty Pants. She is thin, a show off but also very mean. One Sunday morning, Little Miss Smarty Pants woke up in her fancy bed. She went down to her kitchen and made a vegemite sandwich and poured some orange juice. Little Miss Smarty Pants went for a drive to the shop. She saw her cousin, Little Miss Smart. Little Miss Smart said Hi but then Little Miss Smarty Pants put up a sign! It said ‘don’t talk to me’ but her cousin couldn’t even read it because it was so fancy so her cousin told her ‘go to a therapist.’ She went to the therapist centre and now Little Miss Smarty Pants can write properly, and everyone can read her writing.
