From the Principal's Desk

Monday 5 August 2019:

Welcome to the first Principal’s blog and to our new College website. Our news section is designed to keep families updated with the many happenings and events around campus and will replace our weekly newsletter. As part of the new College website, we are also releasing an updated and much improved App which will be available shortly via iTunes and Google Play.

Term 3 is now well underway and the College calendar has provided our community with a variety of exciting and engaging opportunities.

Recently we welcomed our sister school Nichidai Fujisawa College for their annual visit. The 2019 tour group included 42 students and 3 staff who immersed themselves in College life and embraced the opportunity to experience our Australian culture. Thank you to the staff and host families that assisted in ensuring the annual visit was both positive and enriching.

One of the annual highlights of Term Three is the Year 9 Capricorn Tour and on Wednesday 31 July we farewelled a very excited group of students and staff as they made their way north to experience the wonders of Carnarvon Gorge, Longreach, Emerald, Rockhampton, Kinka Beach and Great Keppell Island. The tour provides students with a unique learning experience that also fosters the building and strengthening of friendships and teamwork. Parents can experience the tour via the closed Facebook Group with live updates and photos daily. We look forward to the return of our Year 9 students to learn of their great adventures.

This term will see our Year 6 students embark on the inaugural Canberra Tour as well as Year 4 students and Year 8 students heading off to enjoy their annual camps. Our Prep to Year 3 students will also experience outdoor education and a taste of camping at the end of term at our very own campground on the banks of the Albert River.

We are also are excited to see our Far North Queensland tour in September providing senior students with a rewarding experience as they venture up to Wujal Wujal and immerse themselves in Inidgenous culture and community service.

Our sporting teams are once again in full action with our students competing in Boys Soccer and Basketball and Girls Volleyball and Touch Football as part of the Greater Brisbane Conference (GBC) competition for Secondary School and Soccer and Basketball for students in the Junior TAS (The Associated Schools) competition for Years 3 to 6. Information on fixtures is available weekly on the College website, App and on our closed Facebook Group – MY RMC COMMUNITY.

We are excited to see many Primary and Secondary students taking advantage of a unique opportunity to enrol in a specialised Golf Program designed by Windaroo Lakes Golf Course for Rivermount students. The interest in Golf is continuing to grow as is our association with our neighbours across the river. It is anticipated that in 2020, we will introduce Golf as subject for Year 8 students.

Our very committed Families and Friends Association will be hosting a Moonlight Carnival on Friday 6 September from 3:30pm to 8:00pm. This is a wonderful community event with a Rock n Roll theme, featuring great music and food, market stalls and a fireworks spectacular to conclude the event.
