Instrumental Ensembles

These activities are available to students dependent upon year level.

Development Band

The Primary Development Band is an entry level ensemble open to all Woodwind/Brass and Percussion players in Year 4 to Year 6. The aim of this group is to develop performance and ensemble skills and to prepare students who wish to join the Wind Ensemble at a later stage.

The Primary Development Band has a 45 minute rehearsal, out of school hours once a week. The Development Band may perform occasionally at Primary Assemblies and participation in all scheduled rehearsals and performances is compulsory for members of the band.

Wind Ensemble

The Wind Ensemble is open to all Woodwind, Brass and Percussion players from the Primary School in Year 4 to Year 6.

The Wind Ensemble has a 45 minute rehearsal, out of school hours once a week. The Ensemble performs at a number of College and community functions throughout the year. Participation in all scheduled rehearsals and performances is compulsory for members of the ensemble.

Concert Band

The College Concert Band is open to all Woodwind, Brass and Percussion players from the Secondary School. At the discretion of the Concert Band’s Director, students from the Primary School may also participate following recommendation from their instrumental tutor or undertaking an audition.

A keyboardist and bass guitarist are also required to provide additional support to the bass section of the ensemble.

The Concert Band rehearses one afternoon per week from 3.30pm to 4.30pm and performs at a number of College and community functions throughout the year.

Participation in all scheduled rehearsals and performances is compulsory for members of the band. Additional rehearsal time may be scheduled throughout the year in the lead-up to special events.

In order to uphold a high standard of performance, it is expected that members of the Concert Band are receiving ongoing tuition on their instruments. However, inclusion may be possible without owning an instrument. This tuition can be provided through the College’s Performing Arts Tuition program or independently sourced.

String Quartet and Ensemble

The String Quartet rehearses one morning a week at a time agreed by the director and the Quartet and Ensemble members.

The String Quartet has the opportunity to perform at a number of College and community events throughout the year. Participation in all scheduled rehearsals and performances is compulsory for members of the quartet.

To uphold a high standard of performance, it is expected that members of the String Quartet are receiving ongoing tuition on their instrument. However, inclusion may be possible without owning an instrument. This tuition can be provided through the College’s Performing Arts Tuition Program or independently sourced.

Following recommendation from their instrumental tutor or audition, additional members may be added throughout 2023 to form a String Ensemble. If student numbers and student interest allow, both a Primary and Secondary Ensemble will be established.

Contemporary

The College also provides opportunities for contemporary musicians in a variety of rock bands and ensembles

Jazz Band

Jazz Band is a small ensemble based around both traditional and modern repertoire and instrumentation. This group rehearses one lunchtime per week which is dependent on the best fit for all members. Membership is usually via invitation, however, enquiries are welcomed. The establishment of a Jazz Band in any year is dependent on the availability of musicians.

Backline Masters

Backline Masters is a contemporary music group who provide the backing for many of the College's talented singers and special event pieces. This group rehearses one afternoon per week from 3.30pm to 5.00pm except during a musical production season. Membership is usually via invitation; however, enquiries are welcomed.

Other instrumental ensembles may be arranged for interested performers.
